Delegate Information

The symposium will be organised at the ESRF - European Synchrotron Radiation Facility located at 71 avenue des Martyrs, Grenoble, France. The ESRF occupies the end of the presqu’île (peninsula), delimited by the two rivers Drac and Isere, on the West end of Grenoble.

The ESRF was conceived as a true European collaboration for the advancement of X-ray science. In 1988, eleven European countries joined forces to build the world’s most performing and brightest « third-generation » light source. User operation began in 1994 with 15 beamlines, reaching a total of 40 beamlines in 1998, and 46 today. In 2020, thanks to a major upgrade programme, the ESRF began operating a brand-new generation of high-energy synchrotron, the ESRF-Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS), providing scientists with unique capabilities and new facilities. Each year, more than 900 projects are granted from the proposal calls, resulting in 6,000 user visits and about 1,800 academic article published. Tomography plays an important role, being regularly carried out on seven beamlines among the various X-ray based techniques offered. From nano-tomography (ID16A and B) to large scale micro-tomography (BM18), the ESRF makes it possible to reach single cell resolution to imaging object the size of a human being.

The Banquet will take place on the 11th of September in the Lediguière room at the Bastille Fort overlooking the city. This evening spent in one of the most iconic landmark of Grenoble will provide an additional opportunity for networking or simply enjoying a good time with fellow tomographists.

This year we are not offering membership while we reconsider the offer. Attendees will be considered members for the purpose of funding applications.

Travel

Grenoble is an entry point to the French Alps, located between Lyon in France and Geneva in Switzerland.

By Air
Grenoble is served by two airports:

• Lyon - Saint-Exupery Airport, with an hourly or half-hourly shuttle bus to Grenoble (1 hour). We advise you to buy your tickets online from the shuttle service 'FlixBus' or 'BlaBlacar'. The closest stop to the ESRF for this shuttle is 'Grenoble - Oxford' which is a 10min walk from the campus' entrance. However due to road works planned to last until mid-September 2025 this stop may not be available when you attend the ToScA Symposium. We therefore advise that you book your trip to Grenoble station and then catch Tram B towards the last stop (Direction : Oxford). A station at the airport allows to reach Grenoble by train as well.

• Geneva - Cointrin Airport, with several shuttle buses per day to Grenoble bus/train station (2 hours). We advise you to buy your tickets online from the shuttle service 'Flixbus' or 'Blablacar'. Regular trains and buses from the airport exist to reach Geneva Cornavin, the main city train station, from where it is possible to reach Grenoble by train in about 2 hours.

By Train
Grenoble is well served by trains from France and Europe, including direct TGV from Paris (3 hours). A quick itinerary planning can be done using Trainline for international train travel.
